Project Summary:
Using a modern interpretation of arrows in rotation to create the perimeter of an electrical outlet, this bold and whimsical graphic icon creates an immediate connection between electronics and recycling.
Incentives:
This interpretation of the e-cycle symbol is not only readily recognizable, but also bold and memorable. By giving the symbol a modern edge, the symbol will not only be influential to the public at large, but also easily applied to t-shirts, totes, etc.
Jury Comments:
“I like the logo’s simplicity and humor. I also appreciate it for its somewhat anthropomorphic form, which gives an emotional appeal to a design that, in less sensitive hands, could have become an over-simplified abstraction, which so many modern logos have become (and ah so boring!). e-recycling needs the public’s undivided attention and emotional involvement. I think this design will have a wide appeal.”

Project Summary:
The ubiquitous and universally recognized “power on” symbol on computers, printers, monitors, and other electronic devices is manipulated into a logo for the safe and proper recycling of these devices. A simple manipulation of the incomplete circle to include the recycling arrow creates an instantly understandable symbol for the recycling of electronic waste. Use of the Arrow and the colour green tie the two key ideas together; the first being the importance of recycling electronic waste safely and the second being the relationship with this program to all other sustainable green initiatives.
The logo is simple, communicates clearly the relationship between electronics and recycling and cleverly makes use of an already universal symbol, thereby reducing the need for initial education surrounding the 4ht bin logo and the program.
Incentives:
The simpler the logo, the stronger the message. My design for the 4th bin e-cycling logo communicates clearly and has the potential to go beyond the bin to broader applications. As a clever manipulation of an existing symbol associated with electronics, my design for the 4th bin e-cycling logo lends itself to a quick and successful branding for the program.
