Parsons The New School for Design collaborates with The 4th Bin:

Parsons students examine possible 4th Bin "Pop Up" store designs...

In conjunction with The 4th Bin, architect Aki Ishida has tasked interior design students at Parsons The New School for Design with designing a potential New York City pop-up store. “The 4th Bin Store” will be a drop off point for electronic waste (e-waste) and a retail store where consumers can buy inexpensive refurbished equipment. “This is an opportunity for a timely exchange between design students and a new company with a great potential to educate the public.

The project asks the designers to reexamine their social role. We are challenging the students to encourage more people to e-cycle and to play an active role in bringing e-waste awareness through their design,” Ishida said. Students will present their projects to a group of jurors which will include The 4th Bin's Douglas Heyman, Michael Deutsch, and John Kirsch.
